Creative Spaces

I always find that an artist's studio space tells a lot about who they are as a person and an artist, as well as how they work.  Some studio spaces are kept neat and clean, while others contain stacks of inspirational images and dried paint flaking from a desk.  I'm certainly associated with the second description, and I don't think that there's anything wrong with it. It personally drives me nuts to have everything perfect because I am afraid to mess it up and it keeps me from creating. Other artists however function better with clean spaces to keep their sanity.  What does your studio space look like?

DIY Anthropologie Wool Holiday Ornaments

I saw these adorable ornaments at Anthropologie a couple of weekends ago, and I thought they would make for a perfect DIY! They are super fun and easy to make, as well as being affordable to make. Take a look online to find the wool roving if you can't find it in a Michaels or A.C. Moore. I got mine from a local Whole Foods, and was grown and dyed in the farm down the street. I sizable amount of it was $10, which seems like a lot, but it can be used for so many things (needle felting, wet felting, etc.).
The great thing about this project, is that half of the stuff can be found in your house, and the sticks from outside. I hope you enjoy it, and I want to see pictures if you decide to try it out!

What you will need: 1) *Wool Roving, 2) Embroidery Floss, 3)Floral Wire, 4) Glue, 5) Sticks.
*Wool Roving can be found at craft stores like Michaels (look for felting supplies), and other specialty shops. I bought mine locally,

1) Arrange your *sticks in the shape of your letter.
*The number of sticks you will need to make your ornament will be determined by the letter you make. In my case, I made a 'T,' which can be made with two sticks.

 2) Secure the sticks together by wrapping them with embroidery floss.

 3) Choose a section to start wrapping the wool around the sticks. Placement doesn't matter much, but choose a place where you can cover the ends that may unfurl.  Place a small dab of glue at your starting place to keep the wool from unwinding.
Note: I used Gorilla Wood Glue because that's what I had in the house, but any type of Elmer's glue will work just fine.

4) Continue to wrap the wool tightly around the sticks and make sure to cover the embroidery floss!

5) Finish your ornament off by winding a piece of wire around the top of the ornament to hang the ornament from the tree.

Voila! You just saved yourself $8 at Anthropologie!
These ornaments are great to give as gifts to friends and family, and are great stocking stuffers!

Statement Pieces ~ Earrings

Often I feel like basic outfits need something with color to add a punch.  Statement earrings are a great way to turn a simple ensemble into an outfit worth a double-take. This collection I put together below has something for everyone with prices ranging from $26 to $460.
